"The Question" (Not Connected to James Davis)
Okay,

So lately I've been walking around and I hear a lot of people complaining about how bad their life is and how much they want things like girlfriends and new cars... it totally blows my mind and so I'm inviting anyone that reads this to think with me for a few minutes... I'm not saying EVERYONE does this and just because you know who I am doesn't mean I'm targeting you for a great deal of the people I speak of are people I don't know well... they have sparked these thoughts in my mind and I have decided to pass them on to all who wish to read on...

First of all, most of the people I hear complaining are college students... people who have somehow (either by parents or their own hard work) have made it into college, which is something that is worth being HAPPY about considering it is something that many people in the world don't get to do.

I guess I really just want to point out that... while we don't always get what we want, it is the things we take advantage of that we really need to focus on...

For example,

Many of the people who whine of their current situations do so on this very website or a website like it... A blogging tool where they announce their most important problems... this means that the person has access to or perhaps even owns a computer that connects to the internet.

Do the people have vehicles to get them to and from work and school? Why yes they do... but because of a few rust spots or perhaps just out of date looks, this car has lost its purpose and is classified as "trash." Do be aware that there are many people even here in New Smyrna that only wish they could have a vehicle so that they didn't have to walk to and from work every day... adding to the fact that they wish they could have gone to college to make more money at their current job...

Where do the people who have terrible lives live? Do they try and find cover from rain within a recently emptied dumpster? I doubt this because they would have a hard time hooking their computer up without power... in this situation I am lead to believe that they have a home... some big and some small, but all HOME to the person. Take into consideration the number of people in your area that are without homes and find contentment in the cover of the trees.

These less fortunate people do not live on the other side of the world... they live right in the same town, making their way through each day as each and every one of us do. Many of them complain just as so many I have heard... but many more are happy to have a couple of dollars left on the ground for them to buy some hot food from McDonald's.

Let's look beyond our own world... into the areas of the Tsunami and the children of Africa who have never heard of "Filtered" water and computers. They wake each day happy to be alive... happy to make it for 24 more hours without starving or catching a disease that will end their lives.

To glance at the way things are in other parts of just this single world, helps to open the eyes of those who decide that a life without a girl is a life not worth living...

Do I feel that the people who complain are stupid or spoiled... in rare cases yes... but for the most part I believe that they have lost sight of just how much they have... and how much they should be happy to have. Even I have my bad days and wish I could have better and I regret it once it has been said... but lately I see that people are keeping these attitudes far longer than just one day... they continue to speak as though living in their shoes is an unspeakable punishment that none should ever be put through... yet there are millions of people who would give their lives just to feel what is like to live like a great deal of us do for just one day!

So I beg you to think as your writing your next entry... maybe I really don't have it as bad as I think... just consider the children that die everyday because their parents are too sick to buy them food... or that have to drink from the same water that is used bathing... or people who may be less than a mile away from you with no place to go, and those who walk to work each and every day, using all their energy just to get by... wishing that they had been given the chances that many of us got.

I don't write this to offend anyone... I just write it as a proposel... in a hope that a few people will take a moment to see that there is a world out there that is falling apart... and WE can either help it along or try and do something about it... the choice is ours.

Thank you,
Joel
